The Highland Council is a local authority covering part of the Scottish Highlands and owns ~1,700 non-domestic buildings and ~14,000 domestic properties. It covers the largest local government area in the UK and is 1/3 of Scotland’s landmass. Much of The Highland Council area is remote rural with the majority of settlements unable to access mains gas, however there is ample of opportunity for renewable energy production. The Highland Council is committed to deploying low carbon energy systems within both its domestic and non-domestic properties and hydrogen could provide a future option in this regard.
