Comharchumann Fuinneamh Oileáin Árann Teo is a community owned Energy co-operative on the Aran Islands. Islands are an ideal test bed for renewable solutions because they are often a self contained micro-grid or, like the Aran Islands, an isolated part of a larger network. The main objectives of CFOAT include 100% decarbonisation of the islands and the installation of renewable energy systems to be owned by the community for the benefit of the community.
CFOAT understands that in order to fulfil these objectives we must explore and research all options open to us for generating, consuming and storing energy locally.
CFOAT are a pilot in the HUGE project because hydrogen could potentially revolutionise the way we look at storing renewable energy on the Aran Islands and also has the potential to decarbonise our transport sector.
